iPod Shufflings: Part Five

Hey everyone!  I'm really sorry about not writing on the blog!  I've been doing the whole "high-school-experience."  Well sort-of.  I'm on winter break now, so maybe I will tell you funny high school stories.  For now, let's  begin the shufflings!

So, in "The iPod Shufflings" I will press shuffle on my iPod and will write a review on the first ten songs.  I have all different genres of music on my iPod including a few classical and several Latin songs.

I will rate the songs from 1 to 5.

5 music notes: Yelling the lyrics on the street at the top of your lungs!
4 music notes: Singing to yourself quietly on the street.
3 music notes: Worth listening to a few times, but not over and over again.
2 music notes: Good at first, but became annoying.
1 music note:   Not good at all.

1.) Don't Bother Me by the Beatles

When I was little I yelled the Beatles at the top of my lungs!  I love their songs so much.  It's impossible for me to not like this song or any of their other songs.

5 music notes *****

2.) The Music of The Night (from the Phantom of the Opera) sung by Michael Crawford

This was from the first Broadway production of the Phantom of the Opera.  Michael Crawford gives a ghostly facade to the song which gives me goosebumps.  The musicians are taking their time with song and you can feel the emotions rolling off the crescendos.  It's a beautiful piece and it worth being applauded.

4 music notes ****

3.) Vienna by The Fray

The song gradually leads up to a melody of flowing drifting chords.  The lead singer, Isaac Slade has a great deep melancholy voice which transcends into a song which I believe is about a couple who have left each other and he doesn't know if he has actually left the relationship.  He hopes that they may still be friends in a few years.  The song is a touching melody with several instruments layering to create a beautiful song.  The song may be a metaphor for something else.  I did a Google search on the meaning of this song and on one website someone said it could be a metaphor for death.

4 music notes ****

4.)  Monster by Lady Gaga

This is a classic Lady Gaga song with the synthesizer and electronic percussion.  This song is about a destroyed relationship and every time Gaga sees him or hears about him walking around town, she tells her friends, "That boy is a monster."

4 music notes ****

5.) She Wolf by Shakira

This song is about a girl who everyone thinks is a very quiet girl, but she is actually a wolf and she as fierce as a she wolf when she is at the clubs and at parties.  She goes hunting for the boys at the night clubs.  She could also be telling girls to let out their inner She Wolves.  "There is a she wolf in your closet.  Let it out so if can breathe."

3 music notes ***

6.) All the Right Moves by OneRepublic

This eclectic style of sound is powerful and charming at the same time, sending the listener into almost a steampunk style of music.  This song to me is about a guy trying to measure up to someone else, and prove that they are worth being with compared to the other guy.  I love this song a lot and it sweeps me away to a place where I can disappear and listen.

5 music notes *****

7.)  Vanilla Twilight by Owl City

This is a very smooth electronic piece.  It's about someone wishing that they could fix the past, because they miss the one they love.  It's beautifully done and it inspires me to do things I never thought were possible.

4 music notes ****

8.) Hotel California by the Eagles

I would hear this song on the radio a lot when I was younger.  No one could ever cover this song because it is the Eagles and it can never be anyone else.  This song is about the living in California and what it's like to live the high life.  Everyone who lives there are "prisoners of their own device." They are stuck there because of what they have done in their lives and of their own cause.  The guitar solo on this song is smooth and awesome.  Definitely in my top songs list.

5 music notes *****

9.) American Idiot by Green Day

This song is about what America really is like.  It's a song of rebellion and strength.  It talks about how materialism is constantly shoved in our face and we are always being told what to do by someone in the government.  They are pushing individuality and that certain things should not be controlled by the government.  "...We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.  Don't want to be an American idiot.  One nation controlled by the media.  Information age of hysteria.  It's calling out to idiot America..."  This is a powerful song and it is absolutely and unequivocally correct.

5 music notes *****

10.) The Creep by Lonely Island featuring Nicki Minaj

Lonely Island is my favorite comedy group, who is extremely creative and talented.  I don't even need to explain the meaning of it because it is so blatant.  This is a hilarious song and from time to time I walk around my house listening to it.   Props to Lonely Island for this hilarious hit!

Meditation Three

Hey everyone!  I'm sorry I haven't written for almost two weeks!  High school is...hard to describe.  One of my close friends said to me, "High school isn't even that big of a deal.  You just take care of business and get out."  Everyday, his words ring inside my head.  High school is an experience which is overwhelming, tiring, exhausting, mesmerizing, exciting, mind numbing, and nothing short of amazing.  In Biology, we have learned about the different levels of organization.  The definition of community is, "A group of species living together in one ecosystem."  High school is much the same.  We are each of a different species.  Yet, as most of us know, species coexist.  We have mutualism--- a relationship between different species where both individuals derive a benefit.  You might feel as if you are alone in high school.  You aren't though!  If you are yourself (I know, the repeated phrase), you will have friends.
I can already tell that you are currently rolling your eyes and thinking, "This girl has no idea what she is talking about.  She is only a freshman.  High schools seems all great and amazing at the beginning, but her enthusiasm won't last long."  Well, you people better deal with the fact that what I say is true. BE CONFIDENT ABOUT YOURSELF!  I know, it doesn't sound very original.  Don't be someone you aren't.  Don't change yourself just so others can like you.  If someone doesn't like you because you don't have your hair a certain way or you suck at a particular sport, then they better just deal with it.
I'm not saying that I don't have my moments of low self esteem.  I have them quite often.  I am affected by the smallest thing.  I overreact.  I'm not afraid to admit that.  I don't want you to be like me.  I want you to do the right thing for yourself.
I have made so many friends in high school.  Just by having the simplest conversations.  A small joke made can create a laughter that goes on for ten minutes, and an observation can create discussions that last for much longer.  I truly need my friends.  They are part of the base of my support system.  If I didn't have friends, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.  So, I guess this is some passing thoughts I wanted to express.  They have been rattling around in my head for the past few days and, of course, I choose a Friday night to throw these thoughts at the Internet instead of doing my chorus essay.  (I guess I don't need to tell you I have a procrastination problem.)
Conclusion:  Basically, I want all of you to be confident about yourselves.  Especially, if you're in high school.  Confidence can take you a long way.  I also would like to tell all of my close friends, thanks for being there for me.

How To Open Your Locker

1.)  Turn the lock three times to the right past the first number.  This clears the lock of any past numbers or any silly mistakes you people made.

2.) Turn the lock to the right so that it lands on your first number.

2.) Turn to the left all the way past the first number and zero to your second number.

3.) Turn all the way to the right to the third number.  You don't have to skip zero this time.

4.) Pull the lock.  Or door.  Whichever.

5.) Voila! The door is opened.

If you were looking for a way to break into a locker.  Then you are a very bad person.  Shame on you.  I see you walking away hanging your head down in shame.  Yes, this is a time out.  Go sit in the corner.  Go on!  No excuses!  *10 minutes later*

You're not going to break into a locker now, right?  Good.
Wait, did you forget your combination?  BAD JOB!  Go embarrass yourself now and ask your teacher what your combination is.
*15 minutes later*

I'm sorry everyone laughed at you, but you deserve it for forgetting your combination.

Such a freshman mistake.  My goodness...

(This is why I'm practicing.)

The Pre-High School Dance

I am starting high school in a week.   Current feelings: excitement, nervousness, and anxiety.  I have been combing the internet for help to start high school.  Nothing really spells it out though.  I suppose no one really wants to tell you how to transition because this is your own experience.  You have to figure it out on your own.  Everyone has their own experience and their own situation.  Since everyone is unique, then every high school experience in unique.  To those of you worried about high school, I will write about the preparation for high school.  I am currently going through it and by writing this through, it will put me at ease and hopefully, you at ease.
  • I am going to a Catholic high school, so there is, of course, a uniform.  A friend of mine gave me advice about it and the uniform.  One: Don't get a blouse too loose or you will seem fatter than you really are. Two: Don't get a blouse too tight or you will look like a prostitute.  Three: If the skirt is below your knees, roll it up one or two times.  Four: Don't roll it up so much that it is much higher than your knees.  I really haven't run into many problems with the uniform.  I haven't grown much so my blouses from the 8th grade still fit.  They fit perfectly on me.  If you want to know if your blouse has outgrown you, then the cuffs will be above the wrist and the shirt will not fall naturally on your shoulders.  Also, if you are going to a Catholic high school, be sure to check the handbook for any rules and regulations about your uniform.  For example: my handbook says that the skirt cannot be any shorter than two inches above the knee.
  • I have been having a lot of trouble with the gym clothes.  They are basketball shorts that are blue and have the school logo on it.  I put them on and they were too tight.  The shirt for gym is the same.  So, I will have to try and make an exchange at the bookstore.  My mama's tips are: if the shirt is made of cotton it will shrink in the wash.  So, make sure that when you put the shirt up to yourself that the seam on the shoulder falls a little bit below your shoulder; the shirt should be a little wider than yourself, and the hem should fall just below your crotch.
  • When thinking about your locker, you shouldn't buy any decorations or shelving until you know what your locker looks like and the height and width of your locker.  In elementary school and middle school, I was never allowed to use spiral notebooks.  Now that I am, I have bought one for each subject because I would get confused with a three subject notebook, and I tend to write notes a lot.
  • The school will require your health certificate and your immunization record.  I actually spent the past week with my doctor getting that done.  If you are scared of blood tests, I recommend that you close your eyes and look away.  It doesn't take any time and it really doesn't hurt.  You will have a little bruise afterwards, but it doesn't hurt.  If you are scared of shots as much as me, then have someone hold your head and don't watch!  I had to get four yesterday.  I got the flu vaccine, the Hepatitis A part 2 vaccine, the Meningitis vaccine, and the HPV vaccine part 3.  The flu vaccine and the Hepatitis vaccine don't hurt.  I promise you!!!  They are a very small pinch.  The Meningitis vaccine hurts a little, but nothing to cry over.  The HPV vaccine is the most painful.  It lasts for three seconds at most and it is a little surprising, but nothing to cry about.  A couple hours after the inoculations the flu shot is very sore and  the HPV vaccine is very sore as well.  It feels as if you have a bruise there, but there isn't.  Don't scratch at the shots!  My father told me that when he was a little kid, (this is when he was in Cuba) that when he got a shot they put plastic bubbles on the shot so that he couldn't scratch them.  Times have definitely changed.
I will write more about high school during the next week and hopefully, the next four years.

FACEBOOK VIRUS!

Hey everyone!  I was planning on doing another VMA post today, but I was kind of thrown off by Facebook.  I was checking my Facebook as usual and a friend of mine popped up on IM and said, "Wanna have a laugh?"  I said, "ok."  Soon after I was sent a link and it said "tinyurl" in the address. I clicked on it and it took me to a site similar to YouTube and it said that Katherine H is in the lead.  Shocking!  It also looked like a bunch of my friends had commented.  I knew it was a fake YouTube site, but I thought that it might be a new app that plays a joke, not spreads a virus.  I tried to download the new version of Adobe Flash so I could see the video, but I couldn't.  Then on the side of the screen the computer said that there was a virus and I should reboot the computer I did and the computer spazzed out the first time.  I tried again and it said that the system was safe.  Every time I try to go into Facebook, it will not allow me to.  Mozilla Firefox, the browser I use, said that Facebook is possibly being impersonated and that I should not enter the site.  I didn't.  I am not sure how to fix the problem now so if any of you can help me, please comment!!  It has already spread to my mom's account.  Please help!  All of those internet safety lectures are coming back to mind now, aren't they?  Spread the news and help!
