Current Woman's Trends and My Views on Them

I must thank Google for this post because I look up current trends and I beg to differ on these truly ludicrous "trends." I must also thank fashionising.com for listing all of these trends.  I look on one website and I see a whole list of different trends which I would love to say are boring to me.  I shall begin my slaughtering and/or praising of these trends.

  • 60s Dresses
The 60s dress tends to go to the knees of the wearer.  I have no problem at all with the length of this dress and I prefer the length to today's miniskirts.  We are not trying to be prostitutes, are we?  I am in favor of the 60s dresses, and all I hate about them are those floral patterns.  Please give me a break about patterns.  We understand being bold, but please be delicate about how you wear these.  A tip: be modest at all times when wearing dresses!  If you look silly in a dress, then your whole outfit is silly.  If you wear a skirt and shirt along with other articles of clothing, then just one part of the outfit can be silly without looking silly in the whole thing.
  • 70s Style
One 70s style which I fully support is high-waisted pants.  I wear them all the time, and they are quite comfortable.  They can be very flattering to most.  These accentuate the waistline and carry a flowing movement to the legs.
I do not care for bow blouses.  They seem like an itchy nuisance hanging at your neck all day, and I do not want to walk around looking like a prepackaged, badly wrapped, Christmas present.  If you do, on the other hand, save yourself some money and wrap a ribbon around your neck and tie a bow.
Roll neck sweaters are very comfortable and warm.  Why should I complain about those?
Hot pants look like todays jeans shorts, except tighter.  Much tighter.  If you like the idea of looking sexy in those, get some normal shorts.  You don't need to accentuate your shape by making yourself squeeze into some tight shorts when you would rather be comfortable wearing something a little looser.  My Mama's tip: If you can squat to the floor and come back up comfortably, then the fit is right.
Jumpsuits can be okay but please keep them simple, cut correctly without poofs of crepe at every seem.  And again: lay off of the prints.
Shiny fabrics can be okay if used sparingly.
Ruffled necklines on tuxedo shirts make me want to stuff you in an Easter egg basket.  So many frills.
What's with the low necklines on these dresses?  They can be okay as long as it doesn't pass too far below your two "personal friends."
  • Military Fashions
The military fashion is in my opinion, very functional and good looking.  It has clean cut lines, it is straight forward fashion and I love it.
  • Lingerie as Outerwear
Okay, let me set something straight.  Lingerie is women's underwear!  The proper definition for underwear is undergarment worn next to the skin and under the outer garments --UNDER the outer garments.  I do not understand a celebrity's trying to wear underwear as outerwear.  It just makes them look ridiculous.  I will leave it at that.
  • Leather Clothing
It was just fine wearing a leather jacket to work.  It was perfectly fine.  Now, why do people have to wear jumpsuits, skirts, and dresses out of leather?  If you actually want to be the animal from which they take the skin to make leather, go and jump into a sty.
  • Buttoned-up Shirt Collars
I am fine with the button down shirts which have graced the centuries.  In my opinion, I wouldn't want to wear these shirts buttoned all the way to the top.  I would let at least the top button be unbuttoned.  It seems as if they are trying to put you into a straight jacket.
  • Lace Clothes
They look so tacky on people.  Who wants to see your underwear through those things?    Lace can be nice as clothes sometimes as long as we don't see your skin right through them.  (See "Lingerie as Outerwear," above.)
  • Cutaway Clothes
Cutting a piece of fabric out of a part of a dress or outfit is a little odd to me.  Some of the dresses look as if they have been put through a paper shredder.  I used to think that those clothes were cool and different.  Well, they sure are different.  The designers have guts in order to do that.  Don't take an outfit apart.  Keep it together people!
  • Knee High Socks
I wear them all the time.  I don't see anything wrong with them being a trend.  I just hope that the designers put them together correctly with the outfit on the model.
  • White Tights
I find that this trend is perfectly fine.  Go ahead and wear them.
  • Velvet
I used to wear dresses made of velvet.  There is nothing wrong at all with velvet!  It just has to be used correctly.  I think that it is used correctly if it is in a nice simple dress, nothing too flashy or showy.  It could be used in a sheath dress, maxi dress, wrap dress,  or a-line dress.
  • Capes, capelets and cloaks
I always found these very elegant and useful when there is an autumn chill or a winter chill depending on the weight and type of fabric used for the cape, capelet, or cloak.

I will keep my eyes open for different trends for my future commentary.  Thank all of you for reading this post, and I hope that you will become a follower of my blog.  If you wish for me to comment on a particular trend, please comment on this post and I will try my best to develop balanced views on that trend.

My View on Fashion

For centuries fashion has evolved from the mammoth skins and the very fashionable saber-toothed tiger skins, to the fluffy, ruffled, Victorian age dresses, to our present day skimpy, tight fitting tees and leg-gripping skinny jeans. Google defines fashion as how something is done or how it happens.  Well, I can counter that with a question --or some questions.  WHO is the person or WHO are the people who define how something is done or how it happens?  HOW is the the decision made that THEY should make these choices?  WHY are they in charge?  If someone has these answers, please let me know ASAP.
In my opinion, the definition of fashion is whatever the consumer feels comfortable wearing.  If you feel comfortable wearing a bathrobe and flip flops, then go ahead and wear them!  People usually wear whatever is 'in fashion" --or whatever everyone else is wearing.  Just because one influential person wears something doesn't mean that the rest of the world should wear it or that this makes those clothes cool.  If everyone jumped off a bridge because it was "cool," would you?  If everyone thought that wearing garbage bags everywhere was "cool," would you do it?
Don't be a follower of fashion magazines defining what's in.  Be a creator of your own fashion.  Why do we think that when a celebrity wears something, that makes it fashionable?  If a celebrity wears a garbage bag...wait, a celebrity did that already.  That was Ke$ha...so, never mind about that one.  But, thankfully, people are not wearing garbage bags now.  But, really people, please use common sense.  If you are comfortable wearing something that you find fashionable without anyone forcing an opinion, then buy it, wear it, and enjoy it.  That's my point of view on the matter.
I am the person who DOES NOT wear skinny jeans.  I am the person who IGNORES what people say I SHOULD wear.  I wear turtlenecks, boot-cut, natural waist jeans, and polo shirts and --did I say?-- NO SKINNY JEANS!  And that's my opinion on fashion.
